We cannot wait to celebrate the 50th anniversary of 420! If you are looking for some fun ways to celebrate alone, with your bubble of virtually with friends, check out our other article, “How to Celebrate 420 in 2021“. If you have already made your 420 plans and you’re ready to celebrate, good on you!
Regardless of experience level, we think it is always a good idea to remind ourselves of some 420 guidelines. It can be easy to get caught up in the excitement and forget to eat, throw caution to the wind and exceed your tolerance level, or try all your new cannabis products at once.
That’s why we have put together our top three tips for how to safely celebrate 420!
Ahhh, the old tried and true adage of “start low and go slow”. You’ll see this phrase used in many of our blog posts and it is the number one thing to keep in mind when you are indulging in cannabis.
What it means is to start with a low dose that you are comfortable with and wait at least 90 minutes before having an additional dose. It can take at least 90 minutes to feel the effects of cannabis, especially if it is an edible that needs to be digested. You can always have a second dose to feel the effects more intensely. But once taken, you can’t go back! It is always better to not quite be high enough than way too high.
If you find yourself too high this 420, refer back to our article “What To Do If You Get Too High“.
If you would like some help figuring out the right edible dosage for you, check out our “Edibles Dosage Guide“.
Whether or not your stomach is empty can have a huge impact on how high you feel. Think about when you drink; if you haven’t eaten, you may be feeling buzzed after one beer. The same goes for cannabis and, again, especially so if we are talking about edibles.
Food that is high in fat, like a greasy burger and fries, can actually amplify the effects of cannabis in some people. Instead, stick with a carb heavy meal or something high in lean protein. Protein pancakes are always a good idea, regardless of time of day, or a scrumptious pasta dish.
Be sure to stay well hydrated, as well. If you tend to forget to drink water once you’re high, have a few extra glasses before you indulge!
We think that 420 is a great time to celebrate your love of cannabis and try new products. As the majority of us will be celebrating in the safety of our homes again this year, it also means that you can experiment with different doses. While experimentation can be fun, it is also important to know your tolerance level.
While you cannot “overdose” on cannabis, you can get too high, also known as “greening out”. You may find yourself physically and mentally uncomfortable, which is not something you want to experience when you are supposed to be celebrating!
There is no shame in respecting your body and airing on the side of caution. If you plan to sample some new cannabis products, we recommend trying a lower dose than you are accustomed to. As mentioned above, you can always have a second dose if you’d like to feel the effects more intensely.
